Elton John - My Father's Gun
My Fathers Gun - Elton John
This song is so emotionally charged and so well written. It really makes me think of the lost values of this nation; of the world. There was a time when people fought... to the death... for what they believe in. These days of self-centeredness and cowardly behavior are taking their toll. The television tells us what to believe. We are pawns. There is no more honor. Not until we get mad about what irritates us and stop settling for less... This song was about the civil war and how the man in this song, instead of giving up after his father's death, decides to take his father's gun and defend his honor. He defends his honor against those that are willing to KILL his beliefs. THAT, my people, is lost. These days, there aren't alot of true beliefs. In my opinion, most beliefs people could throw in my face are shallow. What happened? We conformed. We were in trouble and instead of taking action we ran. To the government. To our television sets to watch the news for a good idea of what to do. To everyone else. Everyone else told you to put your FAITH and TRUST in them and now, we are controlled. It would be a day that would live forever when the people realize their strength... "There's fighting there and the company needs men..."
